Seven - Vital Voices (International Tour)

This production was a new work of nonfiction written about seven real female leaders in the world by seven female playwrights performed by an ensemble of seven female actresses dealing with issues such as domestic abuse in Ireland in the 60s and 70s, sex trade in Cambodia in 90s and 2000s, political corruption in south America, and women’s health care in Afghanistan. The show originated at the 92nd Street Y in New York’s Upper East Side, moved to the international women’s rights conference in Dove France, East Coast, India, London and many others (link). The show required all seven actresses to be wirelessly miced and the trick was that from location to location the actresses varied so the physical mechanical settings as well as the structuring of the music had to be adjusted to fit the different actresses in different cities. It was very interesting touring the show internationally and working with different styles of theater and learning to find a way to speak the same language of not just theatre but also activism and human rights issues.
